ALFA Hike for Hope +5k

Support the Cause:    ALFA's annual Hike For Hope +5k benefits ALFA's mission to improve the lives and health of those affected by HIV/AIDS while preventing transmission through education and testing.  All funds raised during the event stay in Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Lincoln, Watauga, and Wilkes Counties.

Goals For Hike For Hope:  

• To demonstrate compassion and care for individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS in our service area
• To increase HIV/AIDS testing, awareness and prevention education messages
• To raise funds to fund HIV/AIDS programs at ALFA
• To increase the visibility of ALFA as an organization and its mission in our nine county service area
• To recruit hikers/walkers to participate in Hike for Hope from ALFA's nine county service area

Descripton:  The Hike For Hope 5k run will be held on Saturday, April 13th, 2013.  The start time for the 5k run is 9:30am.  Registration/packet pick up begins at 7:00am and ends at 9:00am.

5k Run Course:  The course begins and ends at the Catawba River Greenway at Catawba Meadows Park.  The run is an out and back course and is on the Greenway and free of any traffic.

Parking:  Race day parking is available at the Catawba Meadows Park at the Catawba River Greenway.  The address is 701 Sanford Drive, Morganton, NC 28655

Rain Date:  In case of inclement weather, everything possible will be done to conduct the race day on April 13th.  We will delay the race for up to 1 hour to accommodate.  However, if the race must be cancelled the scheduled rain date is Sunday, April 14th, 2013 at 2:30pm.  Registration and packet pickup would be from 1-2:15pm prior to the race start.

• All participants will receive a short sleeve Hike for Hope +5k T-shirt and a swag bag.
• There will be Pre and Post Event Refreshments, Activities, Entertainment, and Awards.
• Early Registration Deadline is 3/31/2013

Timing System:  Racing Toes will be chip timing the 5k run.  The Hike for Hope walk is a non-timed event.

Packet Pick Up:
Saturday, April 13th, 2013 from 7:00am - 9:00am at the Catawba Meadows Park.  Race begins promptly at 9:30am.  All participants must have registered and received their race number by 9:15am.  Each runner must wear their bib numbers pinned to their front chest and it must be visible for accurate timing.  Runners must also wear their timing chip on their shoe for accurate time.
