Alex Hurtado was in 3^rd grade at Norris S. Childers Elementary School. He was a great friend to so many at the school. He got along well with everybody. He had a passion for life and always greeted everyone with a smile. Alex had a love for soccer and as a memorial Norris S. Childers Elementary School has started the Alex Hurtado Fund. Proceeds from Athletes for Alex will go to help finish a soccer field and walking track at the school. Please join us in remembering Alex’s passion for life and come enjoy a great race for all ages!

Description: All races will be held on Saturday, November 5th, 2011. The Individual Adult 5k run and the 20/60 Mile Bike Ride will start at 9:00am. The Kids Biathlon will start at approximately 10am.

Run: The 5k run course, whether run or walked, begins with one lap around Lincolnton Middle School, then continues Right onto Waters Rd, Left onto Rivers Rd, Left onto Hull-McGinnis Road, Right onto Waters and then back to Lincolnton Middle School. The finish line is in the Lincolnton Middle School parking lot.

Bike: The bike course is either a 20 or 60 mile loop. It will be an open bike ride with no police support.  Please obey all traffic laws.  This is not a race.  Water/Food stops will be provided on the bike loops as well as at the finish line.  ANSI-certified helments are required.

20 Mile Loop: The course includes some rolling hills and scenic views. Directions: Start from Lincolnton Middle School, Left on Waters Rd, Right onto Startown Rd, Right onto Reepsville Rd, Right onto Killian Rd (Hwy. 1007), Right onto Blackburn Bridge Rd, Right onto Startown Rd, Right on Waters Rd to finish line at Lincolnton Middle School.

Kids Biathlon: All kids’ courses will be on the Lincolnton Middle School campus. There will be 3 age groups for the Kids Biathlon, ages 4-6 yrs, 7-9 yrs, and 10-12 yrs old. Kids’ courses are non-competitive courses designed to promote health and well-being. The courses are a simple 1 lap run followed by a 1 lap bike on the same course (varies in length depending on age group).

Event Capacity: 300

Timing System: The 5k & Kids Biathlon event will be manually timed.  The bike ride is an open casual ride with no time.

Packet Pickup:

 1)      Saturday, November 5th, 2011 at 7:00 am-8:45am @ Lincolnton Middle School. Race begins at 9am. All entrants must have registered and received their race number by 8:45 a.m.

2)    Kids Biathlon registration Saturday, November 5th, 2011 7:00am-8:45am.  Kids Biathlon starts 10am.

Age Divisions:

5k Run/Walk	1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards for each age group 10-14; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75-79; 80 & over
Kids Biathlon	Each child will receive an award 4-6 years old; 7-9 years old; 10-12 years old

There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards for the overall male and female winners for the 5k.

Affiliated Charities: This event benefits the Alex Hurtado Fund at Norris S. Childers Elementary School.
